- I have been in the US for more than 20 years. I have adapted and assimilated -- changed my citizenship, adopted some American ways, learned to like cheeseburgers, bought lotto tickets, stopped smoking, bought stuff I never needed, sent money home to relatives, become active in my church, bought tilapia from Island Pacific, eaten once too often in turo-turos, learned English thoroughly, gone on vacations in the US and Europe (but not lately in Manila).
